There are many vaporizers available on the market which is why selecting one can sometimes feel overwhelming. Having the right vaporizer that will be a great fit for your vaping lifestyle will greatly depend on your budget, what your looking for, and what you’re hoping to achieve with your vaping devise.
Firefly 2 and Pax 3 are two vaporizers that are on the high end of the price range.
They have similar features and perform in almost the same way.
Both the Firefly 2 and the Pax 3 claim to be the best vaporizer available on the market, and since they are very similar, we decided to test them against each other and see how well they perform. To properly test and evaluate which vaporizer is indeed the best, we decided to rate them based on operational factors such as heat performance, how functional they were, and how they performed overall.
Both devices state their customers have the ability to customize the temperature settings to their preference through a phone application connected via Bluetooth which they can download for free.
Firefly 2: Gives users the option to select from a total of six different settings, starting with concentrates that are low. Users also have the option of turning the slider up, for more heat and power.
Pax 3: Through the phone app, users are able to choose from a range of 360° through 420° by scrolling through to choose the exact temperature they want.
Firefly 2: it takes about 3 to 5 seconds for the device to heat up once temperature is selected.
Pax 3: it takes about 10 to 15 seconds for the device to heat up once temperature is selected.
Is the Phone Application a Requirement?
Firefly 2: If you choose not to use the app, the device automatically defaults to mid-high heat settings.
Pax 3: If you choose not to use the app, you still have to option of selecting from five different heat settings by pressing on the mouthpiece.
While the Firefly 2 heats up in less time than the Pax 3, our team preferred the Pax 3. With the Pax 3, users have access to a wider range of temperature control. Both devices were super easy to use with the phone app but with the Pax 3’s wide range of temperature control, users have the option of changing the temperature on the device itself. Furthermore, Pax 3’s heat up time of 10 – 15 seconds isn’t the end of the world. You barely notice it. For those reasons, on this section, the Pax 3 is the winner.
Winner for Heat Performance: Pax 3
Ease of Use
Firefly 2 and Pax 3 are both advanced vaporizers that are very simple to use.
Firefly 2: The loading process is very easy. All you have to do is remove the magnetic faceplate, then put your chosen herbs in the small chamber (that replaces the faceplate) little by little. Afterwards, place one or two fingers on the side sensors to turn on the devise so you can use it.
Pax 3: At the bottom of the vaporizer you’ll find the chamber. To open the oven lid, simply push on one side of the bottom to pop it open. Once the lid is open, load your grind herbs in it and once you’re done, put the lid back on and press the mouthpiece to turn on the devise. This initiates the heating process and when you see that the outer body of the Pax 3 looks green, this is the signal telling you that your vaporizer is ready to be used. If you wish to turn it off, simply press and hold unto the mouthpiece.
Firefly 2: Before loading, select one of the three concentrate pads and place it into the chamber. Then, you can choose your temperature settings by using the Firefly phone application.
Pax 3: You have to put the concentrates insert accessory that serves as a replacement on the normal herb oven lid. You can then set it at your chosen temperature. You also have the ability to press and hold on the mouthpiece. If you’re not using the phone app, you can press on the mouthpiece continuously to reach higher temperature settings.
When comparing the two devices for ease of use and function, both Firefly 2 and Pax 3 perform at the same level. The only slight benefit the Pax 3 has are the various ways that are available for operation. While the Firefly 2 is super easy to use, the heating sensors located on the side of the device, make it difficult to hold on to it “hotdog-style”, taking away from discretion and privacy.
When it comes to functionality and ease of use, the Pax 3 and Firefly 2 are virtually tied.
However, our team has chosen to give a slight edge to the Pax 3 because it has a slim advantage in the different ways you can use and operate it. Even though it’s incredibly easy to use, the heating sensors on the sides of the Firefly 2 pretty much restricts you to holding it hotdog-style, which doesn’t always make for the most discreet use.
On the other hand, the Pax 3 is smaller than the Firefly 2. Its frame is a bit rounder and the fact that it does not have buttons, makes it easy to hold in your preferred manner. There’s also an extra flat mouthpiece that comes in the package which provide users with total privacy when taking their draw in. Furthermore, the Pax 3 allow their users to adjust the temperature settings without having to reopen the phone application. These are slight reasons why our team prefers the Pax 3 over the Firefly 2.

Vaping Experience and Performance
When it comes to inhaling delicious vapor, both devices provide a great vaping experience.
Firefly 2: Our team was consistently amazed at how fast the Firefly heated up. It only took a few seconds for the light to turn green and for us to start vaping. There were times when it even seemed to heat up a bit too fast. Sometimes at the beginning of the sessions when the Firefly would heat up fast, we would question if it was truly ready, and yes, it was. Once we took our draws, the flavor was always fresh and tasteful.
Pax 3: Depending on how high you select the temperature, the Pax 3 can take a little bit more time to heat up. Also, while its heating up, if you’re holding it in your hand, you’ll notice that it can become warm. No worries. The cool thing about this device is that the mouthpiece has a lip-sensing capability that will boost it to heat up or cool down. This is strictly dependent on whether you are at the beginning or the end of the draw intake of your vaping session. This feature is helpful when it comes to users getting the most out of their vaping materials. It also keeps the vaping substances from heating up way too fast. Be careful though, for the Pax can get pretty hot when set on higher temperatures.
Firefly 2: The phone application gives users the ability to “power tune”, which allows for extra boost, providing users with stronger flavors and thicker vapors. This comes in very handy for those who don’t have much herbs inside of their vaporizers.
Pax 3: In the phone application, you have the option of selecting between various power settings which you can use to give yourself a vaping experience that is more curated. Stealth, boost, and efficiency settings make a great difference in the quality of the vapor production as well as how long your vaping substance can last throughout a session.
Firefly 2: This vape was not designed for thick cloud production but thanks to its heating chamber that is small and circular, you are guaranteed to have a vaping experience that is joyfully consistent. The chamber is small, only able to hold a little pinch of herbs, which unfortunately can leave you with a burnt aftertaste once you’ve exhausted most of the vaping substance.
Pax 3: If you have this devise set on the right temperature settings, you are sure to have a great amount of vapor but be sure not to set it to the point where the quality of the flavor is affected. Since taste is based on personal preference, we can’t tell you exactly what temperature to set your vape. But what we can say is that the Pax 3 has always left us with a joyful and satisfying vaping experience.
For the overall vaping experience, we found that we enjoyed using the Pax 3 more than the Firefly 2. The Firefly 2 provided flavors that were more consistent but the Pax 3’s thick cloud production left us feeling more dazed which is not surprising since it has a larger chamber than the Firefly 2 which also means longer vaping sessions. While both devices performed very well, the Pax 3’s additional settings gave us the ability to have more control over our overall vaping experience. Therefore, for us Pax 3 wins again.
Winner for Overall Vaping Experience and Performance: Pax 3
At the end of our testing, we believed that the Pax 3 came out on top. We select the Pax 3 over the Firefly 2 as the better portable vape. While both vaporizers have similar features, functions, and production, the Pax 3 give their users more options while also costing $55 less than the Firefly 2.
As previously mentioned, the Pax 3’s phone application is more flexible than the Firefly 2’s phone application. When it comes to creating the best individual and personal vaping experience, the Pax 3 delivered more than the Firefly 2. Pax 3 also come with fun games you can play on their app while you’re using their vaporizer. This is a great distraction for users who vape alone and are not entertaining anyone but themselves. And thanks to the auto-draw features and the button-less designs, the Pax 3 provide users with the ability to remain discreet no matter where they are vaping.
To be quite honest, you can’t go wrong by selecting either vaporizers.
Both the Firefly 2 and Pax 3 have set high standards when it comes to developing small, portable, and technologically advanced vapes. It’s also important to remember the intention behind the design of both products. The Firefly 2 was constructed to help users get the most out of their vaping substance whereas the Pax 3 is an updated device from its predecessor, the Pax 2, which is already a great vaporizer.
Truthfully, I love both devices and I can’t wait to see what other vaping products Firefly and Pax comes out with in the near future.
